🌀 Plot Summary (1–2 Sentences)

Hari Shin has been having a tough time—her longtime crush introduces her to his new girlfriend, she’s working hard to help her parents pay rent, and she's completely overworked. So when her wealthy (chaebol) friend asks her to go on a blind date in his place to scare off potential suitors, she agrees, only to discover that the man on the date is actually her boss... and he has a proposal of his own!

✅ Why I Chose This Book

I selected this book to fulfill the requirement of reading a graphic novel or manga. I actually love reading “webtoons,” which are digital graphic novels you scroll through vertically—many originally from South Korea. One of my favorites is True Beauty, which even became a K-drama. A Business Proposal was recommended to me on the Naver Webtoon app, and when I saw that a physical version existed, I knew I had to read it!

🔍 Elements

1. Illustrations

The illustrations are absolutely adorable. I love how the artist enhances the story with visual effects, like adding sparkles when Hari sees the CEO. The characters are drawn beautifully, and I enjoy the contrast when they're shown in comedic, exaggerated rag-doll styles during funny scenes. It adds so much personality to the story.

2. Believability

One element the textbook suggests analyzing is believability. Admittedly, it's a little hard to believe that someone wouldn't recognize their employee just because she’s wearing a wig and heavy makeup on a blind date. But since this is styled like a K-drama, I actually love the exaggerated, over-the-top storytelling. It hits all the classic tropes: handsome, rich, stoic CEO? Check. Struggling but lovable female lead? Check. An outrageous scenario to bring them together? Check! I’ll definitely be reading the rest of the series, and I’m excited to check out the Netflix adaptation too. I love comparing books to their screen versions!

3. Characters

This is only Volume 1, so I look forward to seeing more development between Hari and Taemu. I also appreciate that the author includes more about the side characters—Hari’s best friend and the CEO’s secretary. Unlike many romance stories that focus only on the main couple, this one offers romantic arcs for supporting characters as well, which adds richness to the story. I’m excited to keep reading.
